Dacre self catering cottages represent an ideal location, particularly for those who have to travel a long distance by car to reach the Lake District. After a long drive, winding through miles and miles of narrow Lakeland roads might not be your idea of relaxation, so a holiday cottage in Dacre may fit the bill. It is one of our easiest Lake District holiday cottages to reach, located a short way off the A66 between Penrith and Keswick, though visitors will find that it is far enough away from the road for complete peace and quiet. In addition, this location makes it easy to reach both towns, the busy market town of Penrith and the popular tourist and shopping town of Keswick, on the banks of Derwent Water.

Dacre itself is a pleasant village, home to the Horse & Farrier pub, St Andrew's parish church and an ancient castle. Those who book Rose Cottage, our Dacre self catering property, will enjoy a stroll around the village. The church and castle are both interesting, and a warm welcome in the pub would be a great way to round off the day! Dacre is also very close to Dalemain, a stately home open to the public, and the Rheged Discovery Centre, an interpretation centre for Cumbria with cafes and shops selling locally produced food, art, jewellery and gifts.

Dacre self catering cottages represent an ideal base from which to explore the wider Lake District, with Ullswater just a short drive away - you can be strolling along the shores in five minutes. All parts of Lakeland can be enjoyed from a Dacre holiday cottage, with additional options for days out to be had in historic Carlisle, the Eden Valley or up into Hadrian's Wall Country. A pleasant way to spend the evening is to visit Pooley Bridge, which boasts pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. Or you could just relax and have a wander along any of the choice of footpaths the stretch from the village, exploring the green countryside and fine views around Dacre.
