EAMONT BRIDGE SELF CATERING COTTAGE HOLIDAY SELECTION

Located in the Lake District Fringes, Eamont Bridge is a pleasant village just outside the Cumbrian market town of Penrith. There are two pubs opposite each other at the southern end of the village, both offering friendly service and extensive menus throughout the day. Perfect for a night where you don't want to cook and don't want to head out in the car.

The present bridge has sectioned arches, dating from the 16th century with further re-developments. During its construction, it was thought to be a structure of considerable architectural significance. You may even catch a glimpse of red squirrels in the area. Down by the river is a path, dotted with beautiful ash, oak, and sycamore trees.

In the village are two historic sites, that is the earthwork known as King Arthurs Round Table and the much better conserved Mayburgh Henge, which is situated between the rivers Eamont and Lowther. Both sites are under the protection of Historic England. A nearby cave called Giant's Cave is associated with several legends. It is said to have been the home of a giant named Isir, or an evil knight named Tarquin. On the road to Mayburgh Henge, a 50-ton block of 330 million-year-old granite from Shap Quarry was positioned to celebrate the millennium. On the granite are carved the Greek letters Alpha, Omega, and crucifix.

Our Eamont Bridge self catering cottages offer the chance to completely get away from it all, located in a tranquil place with beautiful countryside, friendly people, and historical sites.
